The CLA Class is set to comprise four distinct models, including a four-door fastback car, a shooting brake, and two SUVs, one of which is a compact version of the renowned G-Wagen.

Mercedes-Benz CEO, Ola Källenius, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and progress. He noted that despite the competitiveness of their current lineup, including the EQ electric vehicles, they are dedicated to continuous improvement. This pursuit of excellence aligns with Mercedes’ goal to maintain a benchmark position in terms of efficiency and other key aspects.

This future direction begins with the foundation of the Concept CLA Class, which is built on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. This platform blends classic Mercedes design elements with modern technology and novel applications, offering a harmonious fusion of the brand’s iconic features and cutting-edge advancements.

Design

The vehicle’s front grille panel and shark-nose design incorporate elements inspired by the EQS, EQE, and GT models, taking them to the next level. The grille panel transforms into a digital canvas, displaying illuminated welcome and goodbye sequences, vibrant patterns, and a mirrored finish, all centered around a luminous three-point star emblem.

The Concept CLA Class showcases an assertive stance, highlighted by athletic shoulders and a streamlined greenhouse. It rides on 21-inch wheels housed within distinctive arches, while precision lines give it a sleek and purposeful appearance.

At the rear, the interplay of “light and shade” is evident in the illuminated band encircling the rear light clusters, which feature a unique interpretation of the Mercedes star. The company emblem on the rear is also illuminated, adding to the vehicle’s visual appeal.

Range and Battery

This concept car boasts an 800-volt charging system, enabling it to gain an impressive 248 miles of all-electric range in just 15 minutes under ideal conditions. Moreover, it supports bi-directional charging, allowing for vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) power capabilities, offering versatility and potential energy solutions.

The design of the Concept CLA Class draws inspiration from the Vision EQXX hyper-miler, with future CLA Class models targeting an estimated 466 miles of all-electric range based on the WLTP testing cycle.

Inside, the concept prioritizes exceptional comfort and convenience for an electric and digitally connected future. Sustainable materials, such as nearly carbon emission-free steel, reduced carbon aluminum, eco-friendly leather upholstery, and paper-based trim, reflect Mercedes’ commitment to sustainability.

Interior

The interior features a new embroidered interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz laurel wreath and a color palette combining silver and crystal white, all within a spacious greenhouse. The MBUX Superscreen dominates the dashboard, illuminated by high-efficiency mini-LED technology, displaying 3D graphics showcased in the Vision EQXX.

Unique air vents, a departure from traditional Mercedes designs, and an analog temperature ring offer a fresh approach to climate control. A glass panel near the center console provides a glimpse into the vehicle’s technological core, marked by the MB OS wordmark.

Paul Waatti, manager of industry insights at AutoPacific, considers the Concept CLA Class a pivotal move for Mercedes-Benz, broadening its appeal to a wider range of consumers with its advanced technology and lower price point for luxury EV buyers.

Mercedes indicates that the Concept CLA Class closely resembles what the future CLA Class model will look like when it arrives in the market in the coming months.
